Winter in Japan : Hokkaido Trip (Part 2)
Hi readers, this is the second part of my travelling story to Hokkaido!
By the way, I know, I haven't written any post about the new year of 2017, but I promise after this post, I will. The new year that I have, compared to last year, is definitely different. That is also one of the reasons, I write this throwback post to my winter trip back when I was still in Japan. Missing those days so much. And I hence dedicate this post to those good old days when I travelled around with limited money in my pocket accompanied by my Chinese friend.
To me, travelling to Hokkaido was like a dream. It was really a dream came true. I just knew, Hokkaido and often saw advertisement on TV, especially trip to Sapporo, the capital city. Yet, I did cherish that time when I was still afraid to just plan to go there. It felt surreal that I woke up early in the morning in Hakodate, Hokkaido.
A city where many western-style buildings exist, where powdering snows always accompanied us, super cold in the morning, and not to forget, its infamous Hakodate Morning Market, which sells fresh seafood. That morning when snows were falling heavily and coldness struck us.
My friend and I always stuck to our plan. So, we had to get up early in the morning, by the way, I think I didn't take a bath in the morning, since we already had it in the midnight--I got accustomed to the culture lol. Anyway, yeah, though it was super cold, we had to catch up with the time, to be able to look around Hakodate. We first decided to have breakfast and walked to the Hakodate Morning Market. You know what, it was soooo beautiful outside our hotel. I still remember how cold it was, and instead of being whiny about the weather, I was so happy like a child. We could actually play with the snow but we only played a bit and took photos---no snow fight like in the movie.
We walked and walked, went through the thick snows and also experienced this harsh snowing in the early morning, along with its strong wind. We finally arrived at the market! I was again, amazed by the market. Fresh fresh fresh seafood everywhere.
I played a bit with the snow though haha |

We strolled around then we went out of this market and found many small restaurants offering breakfast menu with fresh seafood. And after we looked around to see which restaurant offered cheaper price, we chose this place to have our first breakfast. We chose a 1500 yen menu! And we could choose which seafood we want, well I only could choose two, which were shrimp and crab meat.
The raw ebi (shrimp) and kani (crab) were so delicious! It was indeed a proper Japanese breakfast. |
Happy face inside the restaurant. It was a small restaurant though and only a few visitors came, since it is quite early in the morning when it was super cold! |
